TRENANCE HOTEL SITE [CREST COURT]
client: KPM Ltd
location: Newquay
Working with Architects, Barlow Henley, we are providing structural engineering design services for the development of 27 flats on a congested site in the centre of Newquay overlooking Towan Beach. The site is split into a front and rear block with an open central courtyard incorporating an access staircase, lift and fire escapes. Existing ground levels required retention of adjacent structures and rear access road to create the new 4 storey rear block. Demolition of the existing hotel and propping of adjacent party walls required a design that minimised disruption to the construction. In order to maximise use of space on site, the load bearing walls were offset at 1st floor level requiring a concrete slab transferring the load back to the masonry walls. [984]
